Description
“Snoek Fishing” is a downloadable 10 page 7″ x 7″ PDF photo eBook featuring scenes of commercial snoek fishing in South Africa during the late 1970’s with photography by Rogan Coles.
About this product: The photography presented in this eBook was part of a larger project that involved documenting the fishing industry in South Africa. The project – one that was self-assigned – was done over an 18 month period.
Snoek fishing is but one aspect of South Africa’s diverse fishing industry. By contrast with the rest of the fishing industry, snoek fishing, as featured in this eBook, is a low key, labour intensive occupation. It is also seasonal. The whole project covered hand-line and local inshore fishing through to off-shore lobster fishing, purse-seine and deep-sea trawling. Here we visited fishing communities on Waenhuiskranz [Arniston], Gordon’s Bay, Kalk Bay, Hout Bay and then up the coast to Saldanha, Lambert’s Bay and eventually on to Walvis Bay in Namibia. This sampling of images is something of a drop in the metaphorical ocean, so to speak.
